Brief details of the event highlights: Ms. Shakti S. Cajla is a successful innovator and entrepreneur whose passion is to working for people with disability in India. She has been working with people with disability since 2014. The expert speaker shared with the students how she left budding corporate career in order to carry on with her passion, but only after the enterprise had grown to that level that it could not be managed part time and was generating enough revenue. In her interaction, Ms. Shakti spoke about the skills required by a successful social enterprise owner and the desire to improve their world, to be productive, to have the ability to spot new trends and to deal with failure. She also talked about revolutionary innovations of companies like Amazon that how they built up a customer service, inventory and shipping empire that allows offering everything possible for everyone. Along with this the simple innovations which social entrepreneurs can do with the help of inventions of their time was also shared with students as these can have more impact on the society and its issues too. She further encouraged the students to follow their passion according to their skills. The speaker shared her own experiences of how she started her journey by following her passion of working with people with sight impairment and helping them and then later on expanded it as a social enterprise and is now running that as a full time venture. The expert also shared her experiences in terms of the challenges faced and how they overcame those challenges to reach to the stage they have reached today by liaisoning well with government departments like Indian Railways and they have already developed visually impaired friendly 15 railway platforms and trains. The team is also working on developing 35 more such platforms in years to come. The speaker also answered all the queries of students in relation to how to identify ideas for start-ups, how to arrange funds, and how to develop social enterprises from scratch and still be able to earn profits to ensure sustainability of businesses in the long run.
Learning for the students: Students found the topic very interesting and asked relevant questions on issues associated with innovation and entrepreneurship.
